José A. Figueroa is one of the more singulars character in the history of the current Cuban picture. His vital experience and his circumstances have been the outburst motor for a photography that is in the memory of alls for its capacity of representing what can’t be seen or doesn’t appear immortalized photographically. The work of Figueroa goes beyond the original documental objective to suggest a state of spirit, a shared feeling, a fragment of History, personal or collective, but narrated in a different way. And it is that in fact through the pictures of Figueroa that one can trace a political, social and cultural map of the Cuba of the last fifty years. This publication-catalog was produced exclusively with reason of a homonymous exhibition happened in Cultural CAIXA between January and August of 2018 in São Paulo and Brasilia, Brazil. This exhibition was a brief anthology of his work and a chronicle of mandatory consultation to come closer to the complex and exceptional Cuban History.
